A Talk on President Bush's Agenda for Iraq & Beyond

On the night of the presidential inauguration, prepare yourself for the next four years by hearing Larry Everest speak! Learn from an author and activist, who has covered the Middle East for over 20 years, speak about the real roots of the Iraq War, which, he argues, lie in 80 years of U.S. intervention, the imperatives of global capital, and a neo-conservative grand strategy. Everest will speak about the threats posed by Bush's second term, including: new wars of aggression, sustained assaults on civil liberties and human rights, increased attacks on the environment, greater efforts to concentrate even more wealth and power in the hands of the corporate-financial elite, and the breakdown of the separation of Church and State.

Everest is the author of Oil, Power and Empire: Iraq and the U.S. Global Agenda, an analysis of the current Iraq war which Dan Ellsberg calls “remarkable, horrifying, brilliantly illuminating” and which Monthly Review states is “powerful...a superb analysis and reportage of the war in Iraq and, just as important, a historical account of the past and present role of the United States in fomenting the turmoil and horrors of the larger Middle Eastern context.”

And celebrate the opening of the Iraq Film Festival, which will show its first film Generation X- Saddam after Larry Everest speaks in the same room!
