WIS SEMINAR: "TSUNAMI EYEWITNESS" with Kay Ganapathi

Kausalya (Kay) Ganapathi, of SLAC's Mechanical Design Department, was visiting her family in Chennai (previously called Madras) and was an eyewitness to the events of December 26, 2004, when the south Asian tsunami struck the Indian coast. There were 6 to 8 tidal waves separated by 10 to 20 minutes that struck the port city of Chennai, the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu, and its surrounding villages. Kay will give her eyewitness account of the disaster and local relief efforts. She will also present the relief project that she is beginning to organize, sponsored by the newly formed Disaster Relief At SLAC (DRAS) organization, which is called the Tamil Nadu Relief Project.
