Lorraine Daston to lead Raymond F. West Memorial Seminar

Historian of Science Lorraine Daston will lead the second of two West Seminars. Her second seminar is entitled, "The Morality of Natural Orders: The Customs of Herodotus," a chapter from her work-in-progress, a book on objectivity. She leads the first seminar on another chapter from her work-in-progress at 4 p.m. on Tuesday (3/01).

She will give lectures on Monday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 5 p.m. All events will take place at the Stanford Humanities Center.

Daston is currently the Director of the Max-Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin and Honorary Professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The author of many wide-ranging essays, her books include "The Moral Authority of Nature" and "Things that Talk." Her "Classical Probability in the Enlightenment" was awarded the Pfizer Prize.
