Cognitive Ethnography

Edwin Hutchins, co-director of the Distributed Cognition &

Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory at the University of California, San Diego, discusses his research on cognitive ethnography, an ethnographic approach to studying learning activity in real-world settings. Professor Hutchins will present five kinds of contributions cognitive ethnography can make to cognitive science, including how it can support the theoretically informed design of learning and work environments.
