Beyond the Emergency Room: Putting a Human Face on the Crisis of Urban Healthcare

Beyond the Emergency Room engages the stories of eight individuals struggling to keep themselves healthy and their families together in a medically underserved community. Through work with the Family Practice Ward at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital and affiliated clinics in South Bronx, Ms. Levin will present a series of intimate portraits of work, education and mental/physical health that emerge in the personal struggle for a healthy life.

Meryl Levin is a freelance photographer focused on issues of health and social welfare. She is adjunct Faculty Member at the School of Visual Arts, NYC. She is author of Anatomy of Anatomy and Beyond the Emergency Room: The Search of Health Care in the SouthBronx.
