Claudia Villela's haunting improvisations, and her mesmerizing five-octave range, have earned her a consistent following at the Monterey, Spoleto and San Francisco Jazz Festivals as well as clubs and venues across the United States, Japan, and Brazil. Creative and soulfully expressive, Villela's music is rooted in the traditional and contemporary sounds of Brazil's rich musical and cultural heritage. Villela leads a quartet featuring guitarist and composer Ricardo Peixoto for a journey through Brazil's diverse musical styles and some stunning, original compositions. Performers: Claudia Villela, vocals; Ricardo Peixoto, guitar; Carlos Oliveira, guitar; and Harvey Wainapel, sax, clarinet.
