Female Sex Hormones and Women's Health: From Puberty to Menopause and Beyond

Female sex hormones and women's health, from puberty to menopause and beyond. Hormones which are produced naturally from the ovaries and adrenal glands, i.e. endogenous estrogens, progesterone, androgens, starting at puberty, usually rise and fall with normal menstrual cycling, resulting in changes in many physiological functions. Stress, an imbalance of calories and

energy expenditure, and other factors may disrupt the normal cycle, as will exogenous hormones, i.e. hormones introduced into the system as drugs, e.g. oral contraceptives and menopausal hormones. The effects of

>these substances on normal physiology and health parameters will be discussed. This event is brought to you by CHE, Chicanos in Health Education.
