Chile's Educational Policies in the Last Quarter of a Century: Lessons on Markets, the State, and Educational Reform

Dr. Cristian Cox, Tinker Visiting Professor at Stanford's Center for Latin American Studies, is the highest ranking civil servant in the Chilean Ministry of Education. He has headed the reform effort in Chile for the past thirteen years. He is currently on leave from his position as head of the Curriculum and Evaluation unit, where he has been the driving force behind a number of major changes in Chilean education in the democratic period. Cox earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of London.
