LILY FESTIVAL (YURISAI)

A special screening of the film "Lily Festival" (Yurisai, 2001), along with a discussion by the director, Sachi Hamano, will take place at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2005 in Cubberley Auditorium in the Education building on the Stanford University campus. Following the screening, Ms. Hamano will discuss "The Possibility of Sexual Desire

Among Elderly Women" in relation to her film. "Lily Festival" has been screened throughout Japan, and by invitation at film festivals worldwide. It was awarded Second Prize in the Dramatic Features category at the International Women's Film Festival in Turin, Italy,

and Best Feature Film at the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and Mix Brasil 11.

This screening is part of an interdisciplinary conference entitled "Faces and Masks of Aging: Implications from the Lives of Japanese Elderly" held from May 20 to May 22, 2005, at the Stanford Humanities Center. The film screening and presentation sessions of the conference are all free and open to the public. The academic presentations will take place in Levinthal Hall at the Stanford Humanities Center.
