Curtis Fuller Quintet

A key member of the legendary Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the early-1960s, trombone master Curtis Fuller is acclaimed for his fluid sound—recalling J.J. Johnson or Kai Winding—and ambitious creative phrasing. Notable as one of the few trombone players to excel at hard bop, Fuller has worked in several fine bands and participated in numerous great sessions, performing with artists such as John Coltrane, Bud Powell, Kenny Burrell, Dizzy Gillespie, and Cedar Walton. Joining Fuller in a rare Bay Area performance will be hard-driving local saxman Andrew Speight, backed by a stellar rhythm section of Dick Whittington, Jeff Chambers, and Vince Lateano.
