"Passing: Hiding in Plain Sight"

African & African American Studies (AAAS) presents:
"Passing: Hiding in Plain Sight"
Jaya King, Palo Alto Artist
Artist Reception and Opening Exhibition

Jaya King was born in 1981 in Menlo Park, California and was raised in the widely known bubble of Palo Alto. Gladly growing up as the square peg among the round holes, she set herself apart from her peers through expression. Jaya began to define herself through her art. As life seems to turn itself upside down or slap you upside the head, she took the blows and painted from a new perspective. Creating sadly expressive creatures lost in their own wonderland, the attitude of these dark figures began to define their own environment. Jaya still lives in Palo Alto and has shown throughout the Bay Area. She continues to paint more and more introspective pieces in her pajamas on the couch.
