The School of Humanities and Sciences appointed Joseph Brown new assistant dean for multicultural graduate student services in 2003, after a nationwide search. He received his doctorate at Stanford in social psychology in 2002. He also holds degrees in physics and biomedical engineering. He brings his “personal experiences and academic training to the table when considering issues of graduate diversity, recruitment and retention," Brown said. As a social psychologist, he has “investigated how ethnic stereotypes can shape the identities of minorities."
