Garth Fagan Dance with the Wycliffe Gordon Septet "Griot New York"

The beat of the African American street, the radiant sound of burning jazz, and the muscle and sweat of ultra-hot dancers-a tale unfolds that is uniquely New York and positively Garth Fagan. Winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Choreographer for The Lion King, Fagan combines the traditions of a griot-a West African storyteller-with a score by Wynton Marsalis to generate a music-and-dance collaboration of legendary proportions. The renowned Wycliffe Gordon Septet turns up the heat with live musical accompaniment.
