Kepa Junkera

The Basque people call it the "bellows from hell," but the diatonic accordion, or

trikitixa, is an instrument of ethereal beauty in the hands of Kepa Junkera. Self-taught

at an early age, Junkera, joined by his band, creates a fresh blend of vibrant music that

reverberates with boundless energy. A world musician in the broadest and best sense,

Junkera has collaborated with the likes of Bela Fleck, Carlos Nunez, and Paddy Maloney of

the Chieftains.

PRE-PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION: 6:45 pm

"...the trikitixa puts a bite behind each reedy note, and Mr. Junkera uses that bite to make

melodies dance." --New York Times
