“Fiber to the Village” Project and other Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Human-Computer Interaction

Raj Reddy, Mozah Bint Nasser University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, presents his research on the study of human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence. Dr. Reddy, who has served as co-chair of the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee, will discuss the development of an information appliance for use by illiterate people in rural communities through his “Fiber to the Village Project.” In particular, he will look at the implications of low cost availability of Xbox-3 or PS3 computational power for use in interactive simulated environments to solve day-to-day problems faced by illiterate villagers.
