Kuumba African Dance and Drum Ensemble was created in the 1970s by a group of students who wished to perform traditional African, African-American, and jazz dance as a small ensemble. Our 2005 Spring Show, Ije Uwa, which means "World Journey" in Igbo, will feature music, live drumming, and a variety of dances that extend throughout Africa and the African Diaspora, including South African, Eastern Nigerian, Egyptian, Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Hip hop. Hosted by Famia Nkansa and featuring guest performances by Talisman Acapella, Arabesque Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble, Cardinal Calypso, and the Stanford Spoken Word Collective, our Spring Show promises to be an amazing event.
