Michael Kirst and Bill Koski in Conversation with Roosevelt Fellows: School Finance and Accountability

The Roosevelt Institution's Center on Education and Learning will host Professor Michael Kirst, Professor Bill Koski and the Center on Economic Opportunity for a roundtable discussion on school finance and accountability issues. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

Michael Kirst has been Professor of Education and Business Administration at Stanford University since 1969. Before joining the Stanford faculty, Kirst held several positions with the federal government, including a position in the Johnson Administration's Office of Management and Budget, where he to helped design the Head Start Program. Kirst is a member of the National Academy of Education since 1979, former vice-president of the American Educational Research Association, a commissioner of the Education Commission of the States, and was a member of the California State Board of Education (1975-1981) and its president from 1977 to 1981. Kirst has authored ten books on education policy, and frequently publishes articles on school finance politics, curriculum politics, intergovernmental relations, as well as education reform policies. His most recent book, published with colleagues at the Institute for Educational Leadership, concerns a new role for U.S. school boards.

Bill Koski is an Associate Professor and Director of the Youth and Education Law Project at Stanford Law School. His work focuses on youth and education law and analysis of education policy and politics.
