Robert W. Slenes is a professor of history at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Brazil. Professor Slenes received his PhD. from Stanford's Department of History. He specializes in African slavery in 19th century Brazil. He is the author of "Na senzala, uma flor: Esperanças e recordações na formação da família escrava" (Nova Fronteira, 1999).
