KRONOS QUARTET

“I've always wanted the string quartet to be vital, and energetic, and alive, and cool...But it has to be expressive of life.” —David Harrington, Kronos Quartet

Annual favorites, the musicians of the Kronos Quartet continue their exploration of contemporary works that weave in filaments of world music. This season, the inventive quartet presents the West Coast premiere of a visceral new composition by Gabriela Frank. The epic piece, co-commissioned by Lively Arts, draws on South American music and the legend of Viracocha, a creation myth from the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes. David Harrington, violin; John Sherba, violin; Hank Dutt, viola; Jennifer Culp, cello.
