“The players performed outstandingly...[the] well-rounded and impressive interpretation brought this rediscovery out in shining radiance.” —Kölner Rundschau
In all the centuries since its creation in 1701, German composer Johann Meder's St. Matthew Passion has never been performed in the United States. Now, this glorious Baroque composition receives its North American premiere, recreated by early music specialists Die Kölner Akademie. More chamber-like than Bach's Passion, this intriguing work is scored for five singers and six period instruments—a perfect choice for Memorial Church and its finely crafted Renaissance organ.
