CONGOLESE DRUMMING AND DANCE PERFORMANCE

Malonga Casquelourd has been the leading figure in Congolese music and dance in the San Francisco Bay Area since l970. Last spring he was killed in an automobile accident. In many Congolese cultures, 1-2 years after someone passes, there is a Matanga, which is a celebration of his/her life. This celebration marks the end of the mourning period, and is known as the point at which the deceased may finally be left to rest in peace. Family, friends and loved ones are encouraged to continue with their lives by partaking in this celebration.

Malonga's four children have organized a Matanga celebration this Saturday to honor Malonga's life and contributions to our artistic community. Everyone is welcome.
