The Jane Austen Society of North America

The Jane Austen Society of North America, Northern California Region will meet Saturday, 24 September, 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm, at Stanford University, Margaret Jacks Hall, Building 460, Room 426. Isabel Green and Gail Baxley will open the meeting with an icebreaker. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Alex Woloch of the Stanford Department of English, who will speak on "Character Insecurity in Sense and Sensibility". Dr. Woloch will consider the main issue explored in his book The One vs. the Many: Minor Characters and the Space of the Protagonist in the Novel, focusing on Sense and Sensibility. David Graves will preview his AGM paper "Vocabulary Profiles of the Letters and Novels of Jane Austen and Her Contemporaries". Some JASNA Nor Cal members will have just returned from the Jane Austen Society "Jane Austen and the North Atlantic" conference in Halifax Nova Scotia, and will provide a brief report on the conference.
