SPEAKER: Philippe Van Parijs, Professor at the Faculty of Economic, Social and Political Sciences of the University of Louvain (UCL), and director of the Hoover Chair of Economic and Social Ethics since its creation in 1991.

With the financial crisis, the euro crisis, the refugee crisis and powerful anti-European populist revolts in several member states, one of them leading to the first secession ever, the European Union isfacing an unprecedented accumulation of challenges. Do these various challenges stem from one common cause? Can they be addressed through the disintegration of the European Union? Orin any other way? Among feasible scenarios for the future of the European continent, which is the most desirable one?
