KICS- "Knowledge, Identity, Community, Support" - is a weekly workshop series during the fall quarter devoted to addressing the needs of fist-year women on campus. Workshops are held every Tuesday from Sept. 27th to Nov. 15, 2005, 12-1pm here at the WCC. Lunch is on us, so bring your friends and join us for this fun and informative way to meet other cool women on campus! Though the focus is on first-year women, men and upperclass students are also welcome:) The KICS schedule for fall quarter is as follows:
SEPT. 27TH: KICS Kickoff! Sex, Dating and Relationships at Stanford: Is it true that the only choices for Stanford students are being single, getting "married", or hooking up? Come hear Community Health Specialist, Donnovan Somera Yisrael talk about the dating and relationship culture on campus.
OCT. 4TH: Exercise & Fitness Does it seem like all the women on your floor run religiously? Interested in working some intermural sports into your schedule for fun and exercise? Come discuss strategies for transferring healthy exercise habits into your college lifestyle with a panel of active Stanford women.
OCT. 11TH: Achieving Mind-Body Wholeness Fast paced, high-stress, minimal sleep lifestyles are adopted by many undergraduates here, but is that the most effective college lifestyle? Join Carole Pertofsky, director of Health Promotion Services at Vaden, to learn strategies to have a more balanced college life.
OCT. 18TH Time Management Are problem sets cutting into your time on AIM? Does it look like everyone gets ahead without ever studying? Adina Glickman, education specialist from the Undergraduate Advising Center, has the knowledge and tools to help you achieve sanity in your schedule.
Oct. 25TH: Self Defense Workshop Join us for this empowering, hands-on self defense workshop to learn how to protect yourself in the case of an actual attack. Brought to you by the Stanford Martial Arts Program.
Nov. 1ST: College Nutrition 101 Are all carbs bad? Am I destined to gain the Freshman 15? How can I eat heathily in the dining hall? Come hear Vaden nutritionist Vivian Crisman address these questions and other hot topics relevant to healthy eating in college.
NOV. 8TH: Words of Wisdom for Dean Julie Classes have picked up, social activity is in full swing and you're working feverishly to make your seamless transition into Cardinal life. Come join Julie Lythcott-Haims, the Dean of Freshman and Transfer Students, for an engaging discussion about what it takes to be successful on all levels--from finding your classroom to making it to graduation.
NOV. 15TH: Career Strategies for the Smart Freshman Congratulations, you made it in! However, your days of application-fillling and resume-writing have only just begun. Career Counselor, Espie Santiago will cover what you should be doing now to make sure you gain the skills, experiences, and references you need to help make the most of your time here at Stanford.
