THE ART OF CALLIGRAPHY

Nobuhisa Kitagawa and Sanae Takano, both prize-winning calligraphers from Japan and judges of the prestigious Mainichi calligraphy exhibition sponsored by the Mainichi Newspaper have been travelling the world educating students and foreign audiences on the beauty and evocative strength of calligraphy. They have hosted lecture demonstrations in Canada, Belgium, France, and Japan. We welcome them to Stanford for a two-hour presentation, including a large 4 meter x 5 meter demonstration to be written on the paper on the floor. Audience members will join in practicing calligraphy with brush-and-ink provided at the event. Please wear old clothing...the ink lasts for two thousand years! Novices welcome.
