2005 Eisenberg Legacy Lecture: Understanding Medical Practice Variations

Dr. John E. Wennberg -- director of the Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences at Dartmouth Medical School, and Professor of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth -- is nationally recognized for his pioneering work studying variations in U.S. medical practice, having documented strikingly different patterns of care in different U.S. regions and in different hospitals within the same region. His work has consistently found that more medical spending and more health care services are not associated with better patient outcomes. He advocates greater patient involvement in medical decisions, and incentives that encourage clinicians to provide more efficient, effective healthcare services. Space is limited, so *PLEASE REGISTER* at http://chppcor.stanford.edu/events/4234/. Note that a reception will follow Dr. Wennberg's lecture at 5 p.m.
