Social and Economic Approaches to the Prevention of Violence in Colombia

Dr. Rodrigo Guerrero has an M.D. from the Universidad del Valle in Cali and both his master's of science in hygiene and Dr. P.H. from Harvard University. He has been a faculty member at Universidad del Valle since 1968, serving as dean of the Division of Health Sciences from 1972-75 and president from 1982-84. Guerrero was elected mayor of Cali, Colombia, from 1992-1994. He was regional advisor on health and violence for the Pan American Health Organization from 1995-1997. Dr. Guerrero is currently director of international programs at the Carvajal Foundation, an organization that sponsors innovative self-help programs to encourage urban redevelopment. Guerrero is board president of Vallenpaz, an NGO working with agriculturalists in rural Colombia.

Guerrero will be introduced by JOSE MONTOYA, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine.
