Ames received his Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University. He specializes in comparative politics, Latin America, and organization theory. Ames is the author of The Deadlock of Democracy in Brazil (University of Michigan Press, 2001). This event is co-sponsored with the Department of Political Science's Comparative Politics Workshop and the Center for Latin American Studies.
