The Kreutzer Sonata

Leos Janacek had been fascinated by Leo Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata for at least fifteen years when, in a burst of creative frenzy, he was inspired to compose his first string quartet in 1923. The fascinating characters and methods of the two artists will be at the heart of this single-evening course. Prize-winning author Tom Barbash will explore Tolstoy's harrowing story, and the Ives Quartet will convey Janacek's unique voice in a performance of his Quartet No.1, the Kreutzer Sonata.
