"Gurus, Hired Guns and Warm Bodies" with Stanford Professor Steve Barley

Come hear Stephen R. Barley, professor of Management Science and Engineering and co-director of Stanford's Center for Work, Technology and Organization, discuss his book, "Gurus, Hired Guns and Warm Bodies: Itinerant Experts in a Knowledge Economy." His talk will focus on the trend, especially in high-tech areas, to replace permanent employees with temporary workers and independent contractors to cut labor costs and enhance flexibility. This will be an inter-active discussion, and attendees will learn about the opportunities and challenges of making a career as an independent contractor and about how the market for contractors operates in reality.

Note: please bring your pre-purchased book to the event if you'd like Professor Barley to sign it.
