Linda Williams, Professor of Film Studies and Rhetoric at University of California at Berkeley, will give a lecture entitled, "Of Kisses and Ellipses: The Long Adolescence of American Film." This is the first lecture that she will give at Stanford as the Marta Sutton Weeks Visitor (November 7-11, 2005). The second lecture is on Wednesday, November 9 at 5:00 p.m.
Williams was director of the Film Studies Program at U.C. Berkeley from 1998 to 2004. She is the author of "Playing the Race Card: Melodramas of Black and White, from Uncle Tom to O.J. Simpson" (2001).
