Jan Barker-Alexander, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Black Community Services Center (BCSC), will be the featured speaker at this lecture/discussion series encouraging reflection within the Stanford community on matters of personal values, beliefs, and motivations. Come discover what inspires and really matters to those who help shape the university.
Jan Barker-Alexander grew up in the rural town of Franklinton, Louisiana. Born to a family of educators who taught in the
segregated South and were active in desegregation efforts, Jan's pursuit of a career in higher education was a natural fit. Jan came to Stanford in 1995 and worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. In 1998 she took on her current post as an Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Director of the Black Community Services Center. She attended Louisiana State University where she received a Bachelors in Journalism, and she received her Masters in Education from Southern Univeristy, an historically Black University.
All students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome! Feel free to bring your lunch, if you like!
