DLCL Film Series

Happy Together, (春光乍洩), depicts the difficult relationship between Ho Po-wing and Lai Yiu-fai, who travel the world in order to try and renew their failing relationship. Plunging into the difficulties of a new language, culture, and community in Argentina, the couple cycles through repeated patterns of abuse and reconciliation in search for a brighter future in this beautifully directed film by Wong Kar-wai.

Discussion will focus on analyzing the relationships between gender and sexuality, love and friendship, body and performance. We will also address the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and class as well as the different ways that film has represented sexuality across cultures, schools of cinema, film technologies, and history.

These screenings are part of the DLCL Film Series DLCL 152A/354A, which undergraduates and undergraduates can take for one unit C/NC. All screenings are free and open to the public and audience members are encouraged to participate in the discussions following the films. Please be aware that some films may include graphic or disturbing content: viewers are therefore advised to familiarize themselves with the films' content before viewing. May be repeated for credit.
