Rajan Gupta, Los Alamos National Laboratory, "HIV/AIDS: A Thermometer for the Future of the Poor - India, A Case Study"

The spread of HIV/AIDS raises a much deeper and more fundamental problem -- the very future of the poor, illiterate, and marginalized populations. After a brief overview of the HIV/AIDS situation Dr. Gupta will provide his perspective on key issues that threaten the process of the transition of the poor into the ranks of the globalized "haves." He will conclude by giving a prioritized list of key interventions that can mitigate these threats and explain why we today have the resources and the understanding to accelerate the transition.

Since January 1999 Dr. Rajan Gupta has been involved in developing educational material for accelerating disease prevention (in particular for HIV/AIDS), health care, education, and enviornmental awareness in school students, industrial workers, villagers, and the public in general.
