What Matters to Me and Why featuring guest speaker Carole Pertofsky

Carole Pertofsky, Director of Health Promotion Services at Vaden Student Health Center, will be the featured speaker at this lecture/discussion series encouraging reflection within the Stanford community on matters of personal values, beliefs, and motivations. Come discover what inspires and really matters to those who help shape the university. All students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to attend this free program! Bring your lunch, if you like!

Carole Pertofsky is entering her 13th year as the Director of Health Promotion Services at Vaden Health Center. She and the HPS staff are passionate about teaching and promoting student wellness on the Stanford campus, supporting students to reach their full potential. Pertofsky treasures this endeavor, and advocates for health by teaching and offering health and wellness classes, seminars and workshops.

Prior coming to Stanford, Pertofsky served as a public health promotion administrator in a variety of settings in the United States and in Europe, including schools, the military, health care organizations and the Department of Education.

As a result of her own personal journey with breast cancer, she became fascinated by how the mind and body are strong allies in the healing process. This interest led to her co-founding "Spiritual Tools for Healing" Center, a cancer survivors support network located in the East Bay.

In addition, Pertofsky's involvement with a film project addressing issues of women and aging evolved into programs aimed at empowering women to appreciate the life journey at every stage of life.
