A Discussion With Ka Lun Au

Au was born in Hong Kong and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a master's degree in Asian studies at the University of Hong Kong. Since 1989, he has worked at Television Broadcasts Company, the largest television station in Hong Kong. He began there as a reporter, covering general news and China and Hong Kong politics. He then became a principal producer for "97 Magazine," a weekly current affairs program recording the changes surrounding the handover of Hong Kong from Britain to China in 1997. He has since worked as the principal producer for other current affairs and special programs at the station and, in 2002, was named host and co-executive producer for "News Magazine," a team that works on investigative reports and in-depth analysis. His team has won a number of awards for its work, including a 2001 Peabody Award for a 3-part report in which he was the executive producer; the series examined China's accession to the World Trade Organization.
