The Electronic Health Record: Implications for the Consumers and Providers of Healthcare in the 21st Century

After almost 50 years of research and development, the era of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) has arrived, transforming health care delivery, public health, and biomedical research. This lecture will cover the history of the EHR, the current state of its deployment in the United States, and the role of the EHR in reducing medical errors. Privacy issues related to the EHR will be addressed, as well as why the United States is so far behind other developed countries in its usage.
