Stanford Jazz Workshop Jazz Residency

Each summer for more than three decades the Stanford Jazz Workshop (SJW) has created a lively and supportive community of jazz artists, educators, students, and enthusiasts on the campus of Stanford University. SJW's programs provide an exceptional immersion in jazz, fostering a deeper appreciation of this great improvisational music genre, hailed by many as "the definitive American art form."

Stanford Jazz Workshop's 2006 Jazz Residency for adults and advanced youth will be presented July 30 through August 4. All events will be presented at Stanford's Braun Music Center and Dinkelspiel Auditorium. Founded in 1972, the Stanford Jazz Workshop (SJW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to jazz education and appreciation. Financial need-based scholarship assistance is available.

Featured performers and instructors for the 2006 Stanford Jazz Workshop Jazz Residency will include saxophonists Phil Woods, Jimmy Heath, Eric Alexander, and Andrew Speight; guitarist Peter Bernstein; pianists Cedar Walton, Larry Goldings, Randy Porter, Dena DeRose, and Harold Mabern; bassist Rodney Whitaker; drummer Bill Stewart; and vocalists Madeline Eastman and Dena DeRose. A complete list of participating artists is available at the Stanford Jazz Workshop website, StanfordJazz.org.
