Sound Clash: African Art Perception

African Art and Museum Display Class to present Sound Clash: African Art Perception, March 13-March 19, reception on March 15 from 5:30-7:30 pm. The students of Professor Barbaro Martinez-Ruiz's African Art and Museum Display class present a landmark exhibition on African art. The exhibition presents "traditional" works of African art along with those of a contemporary artist working in the United States. The exhibition explores the notion of sound as an aspect of art from Africa and the African Diaspora. Sound and specifically, vibrations emanating from sound, such as music, complement the visual work that includes masquerade, textiles and a site-specific installation especially comissioned for this exhibition by artist Rafael Arzuaga. Other featured works include those from the private collections of Barbaro Ruiz-Martinez, Manuel Jordan Perez and from the Cantor Arts Center.
