ASSESSING KATRINA: DEALING W/ DISASTER

The final lecture in the Assessing Katrina series features Charles Perrow, professor emeritus of sociology at Yale University on “Why the Department of Homeland Security Will Not Make Us Safer.” Mark Ghilarducci, vice president, Western Region, James Lee Witt and Associates, will talk about preparing for catastrophic disaster and the new challenges for emergency

management. Elisabeth Pate-Cornell, Burton J. and DeeDee McMurtry Professor of Engineering at Stanford will talk about Katrina and other extreme events from a risk analyst's perspective. And Gary Schoolnik, Professor of Medicine and an expert on infectious diseases will discuss natural disaster and civil disorder as precipitants of global epidemics.
