The Institute for Diversity in the Arts students working with artist Albert Chong have been deeply immersed in their familial histories and family photographs. From these conversations and sharing of this aspect of our humanity the students have responded with personal narratives about their families and with art that they have created regarding themselves, their families or societal issues or events such as the devastation of the Gulf Coast communities by hurricane Katrina. The class has also been working with three families from New Orleans to provide assistance with recovering, repairing and digitizing family photographs in the aftermath of the natural disaster.
