Korean Traditional Music Today: P'ansori

The program consists of a lecture, a p'ansori demonstration, and a mini-workshop. Professor Park discusses the Korean musical heritage as a part of Northeast Asian traditions, underscoring Korea's distinct areas of cultural convergence and divergence. Although traditional music is a precarious form in Korea today, it bridges the past and the present, the local and the global. Professor Park examines the social, aesthetic and performative existence of traditional music in contemporary Korea, with special attention to the story-singing tradition of p'ansori. This event is co-sponsored by The Korea Society
