Back from Chernobyl: Diary of an Outraged Man

Talk by Jean-Pierre Dupuy, École Polytechnique, Paris, and Stanford University. Comment: Sonja Schmid. Professor Dupuy is Professor of Social and Political Philosophy at the École Polytechnique, Paris. He is the Director of research at the C.N.R.S. (Philosophy) and the Director of C.R.E.A. (Centre de Recherche en Épistémologie Appliquée), the philosophical research group of the École Polytechnique, which he founded in 1982. At Stanford University, he is a researcher at the Study of Language and Information, and by courtesy Professor of Political Science. His research interests include Cultural theory, the epistemology of the social sciences, and the relationship of current critical theory to logical and scientific thinking. His latest books in English are "The Mechanization of the Mind - On the Origins of Cognitive Science" (Princeton University Press, 2000), and "Self-Deception and Paradoxes of Rationality" (C.S.L.I. Publications 1998).

This presentation is part of the new series "Stanford Seminar on Science, Technology, and Society," which will convene at noon each Friday of spring quarter.
