Love's Labour's Lost: At the Cantor Arts Center

The nationally-acclaimed Stanford Shakespeare Society in collaboration with the Cantor Arts Center presents one of Shakespeare's wittiest comedies. This production of the classic story of four male scholars and their struggle to resist the lure of four beautiful women undergoes an exhilarating cultural reinterpretation. Our players begin their journey in 1930s Spain, but quickly find themselves catapulted into a surreal universe where life becomes art, and art is ever-changing. Our Spain, like the vibrant canvases of Salvador Dalí, is fluid and mutable, and as in a Federico Garcia Lorca poem, the rich language — some of Shakespeare's most fascinating verse — will enchant you. The aesthetic collision of fanciful surrealism against the grandeur of the Cantor Arts Center presents a new twist on a classic story of power, beauty, and the trickery of the human soul.
