SleepOut to raise awareness of homelessness

Friday, May 19th: SleepOut in White Plaza!

Learn about the experiences of unhoused people and the issues behind homelessness.

8pm — Faces of Homelessness panel

We'll begin the SleepOut in the Tressider Cypress Room with a panel of formerly and presently unhoused members of our Bay Area community. They'll discuss the day-to-day realities of living on the streets, their current experiences with housing programs and dealing with the stigma of being “homeless.”

9:30pm - midnight — Performances, informational tables and food

Student performances, like Spoken Word's presentation of poetry written by unhoused people, will begin in White Plaza. Tables will be set up with information about different aspects of homelessness, like Stanford Peace of Mind's table about mental illness. Other student groups and local organizations, like Urban Ministry of Palo Alto, will be there to explain their missions and what you can do to help. Snacks will be available throughout the night.

9am — bagel breakfast

The SleepOut will be officially done at 10am.

Bring your own sleeping bag!
