Widely known as the largest annual event held by the Asian American Student Association (AASA) of Stanford University, the AASA Fashion Show promotes unity within the Asian American communities of Stanford University and the San Francisco Bay Area. Originally, AASA organized the fashion show in order to disillusion physical stereotypes of Asian Americans. However, AASA Fashion Show has grown beyond such trivial goals and fights to support human rights across Asia.
Every year AASA Fashion Show donates its earnings to a single non-profit organization that directly benefit the Asian and Asian American communities. This year, AASA Fashion Show selected the Chinese Progressive Association of San Francisco (CPA www.cpasf.org) as its donating charity organization, because the CPA independently strives to protect Asian immigrants from the dangers of sweatshop labor. Not only does this fashion show promote clothing of talented and fascinating designers, but also we encourage honest labor of the clothing we model.
To further strength the bonds within the Asian American community, Fashion Show 2006 features Asian American and Asian-inspired designers from across the country. AASA's effort to publicize these rising designers helps the Asian American community gain a foothold in the American fashion world. This year, all eighteen of our designers come from three metropolitan cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City. Naturally, the theme of this year's fashion show became “URBAN EDGE: San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.”
There will also be a silent auction.
