Herbert Nanney served as Stanford's University Organist from 1947-1985, and was largely responsible for the construction of Memorial Church's Baroque Fisk-Nanney organ, dedicated in 1984. Tonight's concert commemorates the 10th anniversary of his death, with a number of Nanney's compositions on both the organ he brought to Stanford, as well as the Murray Harris instrument. James Welch, a one-time student of Nanney's, honors his mentor with this recital.
