Drummer Carl Allen comes to Stanford to join Fred Berry and the SJO in an evening of original compositions and standards. Allen, currently directing the Small Ensemble program at Julliard, began his career in his teens by performing with greats such as Sonny Stitte and James Moody, and his journey in pursuit of knowledge, experience, and ever-present swing continues to this day through his teaching, recording, and performing. Gene Kalbacher called him “a drummer of equal parts firepower and finesse.”
