Tapas is the Spanish word for “snacks,” or appetizers. In Hindu tradition, tapas can also mean intense self-reflection or meditation. In their recital, Tapas!, JessAnn Smith and Eric Hung explore both meanings of this word. Included in the program are scrumptious songs about unusual foods, saucy tangos in four different languages that explore love and nostalgia, and sweet but powerful showtunes of self-discovery and growth. JessAnn and Eric met four years ago at the University of Montana. This fall, they are performing the Tapas! recital in New Jersey, California, Washington and New York. They are also working on a cabaret-style version of Tapas! to premiere in New York City and are looking to record a CD next spring.
