The Gender Chip Project: A film and panel discussion about women in science today

In the light of the recent National Academies report on women in science, join us for a timely screening of The Gender Chip Project, by Bay Area film-maker Helen DeMichiel. The documentary follows the experiences of five young women in science and engineering courses at Ohio State University from 1997 onwards, from freshman year to decisions about future career paths. Including interviews with the students, their professors, and the people around them, the documentary looks at the work culture of science and how that impacts on women. See the film's website, www.genderchip.org, for more information.

The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by historian of science and Institute Director Londa Schiebinger, featuring Professor Eric Roberts (Department of Computer Science), Professor Denise Johnson (Department of Surgery, Stanford School of Medicine), Maria Spletter (4th year graduate student in biological sciences, and board member of the Graduate Student Council) and the director Helen DeMichiel. Questions and comments from the audience welcome.

Co-sponsored by the School of Education, the Graduate Student Council, and the Science and Engineering Graduate Women's Association.
